Whole Fish
White Halibut White Halibut "Hipposglossus hippoglossus"

  • White Halibut live in two tribes, an Atlantic and a Northpacific tribes. White Halibut swims in 100-1500 meters of water in a temperature of 3-7 C. Their food consist of all kind of small sea bottom animals, but as they age they become predators and eat shrimps sand eels sculpins. The very big ones even eat; Cod, Hake and Redfish.
    The White Halibut is mainly caught by longline, but some quantities are caught by trawl and linecatching with other species.

  • Black Halibut live in the waters of the North Atlantic on soft clay ground in 200-1000 meters of water with temperatures of approximately -1,5 / -4,5 C. Unlike other flatfish, Black Halibut is not completely restricted to the seabed and often swims at high levels swimming upright.
    Black Halibut are predators, eating; Deepsea shrimps, small redfish and squid.
    Black Halibut are caught by longline, but are also as bicatch in shrimptrawls.
Redfish Redfish "Sebastes Marinus/Mentalla"

  • Redfish are pelagic and are found in most parts of the North Atlantic in approximately 100-500 meters of water with temperatures of app. 3-6 C. The larger "Marinus" lives in 150-300 meters and the smaller "Mentella" go down to 300-500 meters.
    Redfish mainly eat plankton such as; Deepsea Shrimps and fry. Fully grown Redfish also eats fish such as; Capelin, Herring and small Cod.
    Redfish is caught by trawl and line.

  • Mackerel are pelagic and very fast swimming fish. When they migrate they travel in shoals near the surface of the sea in the Western Atlantic. They mainly eat planton animals such as; Vingesnegle, waterfleas and fisheggs.
    Mackerel are caught by; Seine, dragnet and poundnet.

  • Tuna are pelagic. They migrate, swimming in small shoals near the surface. They feed on fry like Anchovy, Sardine and Herring. In shoals the Tuna can attack large Herring and Mackerel. Tuna are caught by pound net and flow net.

  • Swordfish are pelagic, living close to the surface of the water, but are able to swim down to 5-800 meters. The food mainly consists of Mackerel and Herring.
    Swordfish are caught by hook or floatline.
